Great Progress on Democracy Referendums!

Thanks to the tireless work of Jackie Cody, Kay Hoff, and many others, voters in many of the towns in Oneida and Vilas counties will have the opportunity to vote on two advisory ballot referendums during the April 7 election: Fair Maps (whether Wisconsin should adopt a nonpartisan process for redistricting), and Citizens United (whether Wisconsin should support a constitutional amendment to overturn the Supreme Court’s Citizens United ruling).

Democracy is a nonpartisan issue! Giving people the right to voice their views is at the heart of Democracy.

Here is how this effort stands at the moment: which towns will have which referendums on the ballot in April.

Oneida County
·      Crescent: Fair Maps and Citizens United
·      Hazelhurst: Fair Maps and Citizens United
·      Lake Tomahawk: Fair Maps (Citizens United already passed)
·      Newbold: Citizens United (Fair Maps already passed)
·      Pelican: Fair Maps and Citizens United
·      Pine Lake: Fair Maps and Citizens United
·      Rhinelander: Fair Maps and Citizens United
·      Sugar Camp: pending
·      Woodboro: pending
·      Woodruff: Fair Maps and Citizens United
>> 60% of county voters will have the opportunity to voice their views in April

Vilas County
·      Arbor Vitae: Fair Maps and Citizens United
·      Conover: pending
·      Eagle River: Fair Maps and Citizens United
·      Manitowish Waters: pending
·      Presque Isle: Fair Maps and Citizens United
·      Winchester: Citizens United (Fair Maps pending)
>> 38% of county voters will have the opportunity to voice their views in April

Price County
·      Parks Falls and Phillips city councils passed both resolutions

After the April election, we will work to convince other towns to put these referendums on the ballot in November.
